A new season is in full swing and that means it s time for a jean refresh! Denim is the perfect staple to invest in all year round.


Whether you re going shopping, getting brunch with your friends, going on a date, going out to the bars, going to a sporting event, or literally anything else, jeans are the way to go!


Creating cute outfits with jeans can get tricky sometimes, though. It s easy to fall back into the same look or get tired of the same old pair.


My favorite thing to do whenever a new season starts is to buy some new pairs of jeans.


Below, I ll show you where I shop for jeans and then I ll show you some super cute outfits with jeans to get your inspiration going.


Quality jeans can get expensive, but there are brands that sell great denim for an affordable price, while still being high quality! These are my personal go-to brands:


Now, for the outfit ideas. Below you ll find TEN cute outfits with jeans, with tips on how to style all different styles of jeans for 2024!


Our first cute outfit with jeans is styled around these ripped wide-leg high-waisted jeans from Zara. Wide-leg jeans have been super trendy lately, and this medium wash gives off a vintage look.


These jeans also come in 3 other washes and have distressing on the knees with some uneven hemlines for that casual, un-finished type of look.


This outfit is the perfect model-off-duty-inspired look. It s casual and comfy without involving sweatpants.


I paired the jeans with a high-neck black ribbed cropped tank. This tank is a super thick material so no need to wear a bra! Black tank tops like this one are staple pieces to have in your wardrobe because they are easy to style and are great layering pieces.


I added this beige oversized shacket; a very versatile piece to add to your fall collection. It features a soft touch fabric and is both lightweight and cozy.


For shoes, I added some classic Nike Air Force 1 s to keep it comfy and casual. A white sneaker is always my favorite way to finish off a look.


For accessories, I kept it simple with these thick mini gold hoops and this neutral matte claw clip to pull your hair back with.


This next outfit is styling these super distressed mom jeans from Princess Polly. They are in a mid-wash color, are high-waisted, and have a straight relaxed leg with ripped knees.


These jeans are very versatile thanks to their wash; you can dress them up for a night out, or dress them down for day festivities.


I love this outfit because it mixes that boho style with an edgy vibe to create the perfect look! I paired the jeans with this super cute cream long sleeve ribbed bodysuit. It has a very flattering neckline and comes in 2 other adorable colors that are great for the season.


Next, I added these amazing boots which have been trending almost everywhere lately! These are the Steve Madden Howler Lug Sole Boots in the sand suede color.


These are the perfect boots to add to your fall wardrobe as they go with everything and are super easy to style. You can wear them with almost any pair of jeans, or dress them up by pairing them with dresses or skirts.


I finished off the look with some fun accessories to spice up the simple aesthetic of the outfit. I added this blue printed headscarf, some gold beaded mini hoops, and this forest green croc print mini shoulder bag.


This is an example of a super cute outfit with jeans to wear to work. It would be perfect for casual workplaces that allow denim in their dress code. (I m thinking on-campus jobs for sure!)


Start off with high-waisted mom jeans from Urban Outfitters. They have a super clean look to them and a vintage feel with this medium faded wash.


The BDG brand from Urban offers amazing quality denim at great prices. All the denim I have bought from them has lasted me a while and held up nicely throughout the years! They also fit really well and have a really great accurate size range, which we all know is hard to find with women s jeans.


My favorite part about these jeans is how baggy they are. This has been my favorite trend to start trying out for fall. Baggy jeans are SUPER flattering, even if you are on the shorter side like I am.


I paired them with this light green cropped collared shirt and layered it over an oversized tan blazer. I love blazers all year round, but especially right now.


This cool blazer will go with everything in your closet and the oversized fit gives off a more casual, less structured vibe than the usually fitted blazer. It also is lightweight, so it won t be too heavy for warmer days. You can transition it into winter, by layering thicker sweaters underneath.


For some extras, I added these black loafers that give off a designer look, as well as this designer-inspired bag. Both are from Steve Madden! Lastly, I finished off this outfit with some chunky silver hoops.


Jeans outfit number 4 is totally edgy and the perfect daytime look for college. This outfit would be great for class or running errands.


I styled a black pair of jeans from Express. These black flare jeans are high-waisted, with a raw hem and a cropped length. They are super soft and stretchy, while still holding you in. These jeans pair perfectly with your favorite tees, sweaters, and silky going-out tops.


For this look, I opted for a cropped graphic band tee and an oversized flannel to layer on top. Of course, we know flannels are a fall staple. Every fall season they come back in style. This one has some neutral colors and is super soft.


Flannels are so comfy and I will be living in them this year. They also are great to throw over oversized tees and leggings.


I added a baseball cap, some blue platform Adidas sneakers, and some gold layered necklaces to finish off this super easy and casual outfit with jeans!


This next jeans outfit is super chic, but still easy to re-create! I styled these light wash, baggy flare jeans from a brand called Bohme.


These cute jeans have distressing, rips, and a high-waisted fit. The wide leg is super flattering and the denim is not rough so they are comfortable to wear all day or night.


This look is great for going out with your friends, going to dinner, or anything else! I added this high-neck cropped black tank and layered it over this sheer printed button-down shirt.


This trend has been something I have been seeing a lot lately on social media. Any sheer button-down layered over a shirt and left open, paired with jeans or shorts, has been the look this year. I think it spices up any tank top and adds something to the outfit composition.


This pale orange zebra shirt is from Princess Polly. It also comes in 4 other prints with different color combinations! I thought the orange paired nicely with these green mini heels from Zara.


These sandals have a low thick heel, so they are very comfortable! I finished off with this black patent mini shoulder bag and some big thick silver hoops to match the hardware on the bag.


Outfit number 6 is one of my go-to outfits for the weekends! For this outfit, I styled a pair of jeans from Abercrombie. They are the Ultra High Rise Vintage Flare Jeans from the A F Vintage Stretch Denim Line.


These jeans are in a dark wash and have clean hems with no distressing, which makes them incredibly versatile. The dark wash is perfect for creating a more dressed-up look, and the clean style of the jeans is great for casual workplaces that allow denim in their dress code.


There are so many ways to style these jeans, but my go-to is adding a bodysuit and then a cropped jacket if it is colder outside. This black bodysuit is super flattering and can be tied multiple ways. It also comes in 2 other colors. You can tie it in the back like shown on the model, or in the front to add a bow detail.


For layering, I added this cropped brown corduroy trucker jacket. Corduroy is a very popular and trendy material this season and can be transitioned quite easily into the colder months.


For shoes, black combat boots are another staple boot this year. They are so comfortable and sold pretty much everywhere, so you don t have to break the bank to achieve the same look and style.


These boots lace up and have a chunky heel, with buckle detail on the side. They are very edgy and pair nicely with the style of the jacket.


I finished off this look with this amazing cobalt blue bag, a must-have color trending right now.


I have this exact bag in the nude but am seriously considering buying it in this color as well. It is such a versatile bag because it can be worn cross-body with the long strap, or as a shoulder bag with the silver chain.


For accessories, I kept it simple with some stacked silver rings, but you could definitely add some hoop earrings or a simple chain necklace.


Jeans outfit number 7 is very trendy and definitely a statement look. It is very easy to re-create though, and still comfortable because you are wearing jeans!


The jeans I styled here are from Garage. They are high-rise and baggy, with a medium wash and distressing. These are super baggy and less fitted in the back area. Garage describes these jeans as street style, inspired by the 90s that are made to be baggy.


For this outfit, I added a cropped black corset-inspired top. Corsets were very trendy all summer, and they are staying on trend for the rest of the year with an added layering aspect.


I layered a bright pink power blazer over top, for that girl-boss statement. I absolutely love this blazer. A blazer in your favorite color is absolutely a great piece for your fall wardrobe.


I finished off this outfit with some chunky black Chelsea boots and this adorable cow-printed mini shoulder bag.


This next outfit styles a pair of white jeans! White jeans are a staple in every girl s closet, and I think they can 100% be worn after labor day. In fact, it is actually becoming a trend to do so.


These white jeans are the cropped flare jeans from Zara. They are mid-rise, have a slight stretch to them, a flared, unfinished hem, and come in 5 other colors! They also are not see-through at all, which is a problem I tend to run into when buying white jeans.


I paired the jeans with this super cute, 70 s inspired cropped tank. This fun orange print pairs perfectly with white denim.


I added this cropped black leather jacket for some layering and warmth. Then I added some mini black block heels that are both chic and comfortable!


For accessories, I included this black crossbody bag that adds to the chic vibe of the look and some chunky orange hoops to match the tank.


These white jeans would also look super cute with a bright-colored sweater or a loose-fitting button-down shirt!


Our cute jeans outfit number 9 styles these black high-waisted utility jeans. They are the BDG brand from Urban and are super trendy.


These utility-looking jeans have a baggy fit with a straight-leg silhouette. There is contrast stitching all over with flap pockets and a high-rise elastic waistband for maximum comfort. These jeans are so retro and super easy to style as well!


Here, I paired them with this blue button-down sweater. It has a collared neckline and a cropped length. The blue color contrasts so well with the black jeans.


I paired the combo with some white high-top platform Converse and some chunky gold hoops. If you have multiple piercings, this pack of hoops is great to layer with. I love the look of different size hoops in your ears.


Lastly, I added this adorable floral printed mini shoulder bag. I love all the bright colors!


This last outfit set is so fun and something I would wear in a heartbeat! I styled a pair of colored jeans from Zara. Zara is my favorite place to shop for colored denim!


These high-waisted jeans come in this amazing Kelley green color and they have wide legs with unfinished hems. These jeans are such a staple for fall!


I paired them with this button-down cream cropped sweater and some chunky white combat boots.


For accessories, I added this cream mini shoulder bag, some layered gold chain necklaces, and these adorable mini butterfly earrings!

The cyclical nature of fashion trends means that we’re always seeing fashion inspo from past decades pop up again in our trends today.


A deeper reason as to why we’re all suddenly obsessed with the Y2K aesthetic could be because we are facing similar pressures to what society was facing in the 1990s. Surviving a pandemic means staying inside and buying more items in order to survive, as well as relying on technology to get us through these crazy times. 


Is it the end of the world? Probably not. But with a pandemic touching all aspects of our lives, it’s hard not to want to be comfortably nostalgic and take a look at trends past.


Bulking up with designer pieces, bling, and bright colors acts as our safety shield from the world around us. Or alternatively, these colors and details can be a specific way to bring joy to a depressing year.


A lot of really great Y2K fashion inspiration can come from some of the pop culture icons of our early childhood. Bratz Dolls are a huge fashion inspiration for the Y2K look since they’re always glammed out and donning hues of pink and purple.


Designer brands like Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and many others also set the scene for some of the most well-loved trends of the late 90s and early 2000s.


The classic saddlebag is a Y2K staple and is now a prominent look in many designer collections of 2020.


Finally, one of the important elements of Y2K fashion is nostalgia. Think of some of the classic staples from your wardrobe from when you were, say, 5 or 6. Items like butterfly hair clips, pink gummy sandals, baby tees, and bandanas are all the rage now.


Repurposing old fashion items into new trends is a great way to save money and is now super on-trend.


One of the pieces I’ve seen a lot in Y2K fashion is the detailed cami. Whether it’s a silk slip-style cami or even a cotton cami like we used to have from Justice, these are a staple of this summer’s Y2K fashion trend.


Pleated and colorful skirts are another item that’s high in demand. Bright pinks, purples, and yellows are bound to be seen, as well as some low-rise denim skirts or jeans.


As I mentioned earlier, highlighting the figure with form-fitting clothing is a huge staple of Y2K fashion.


Button-up cardigans, tie-front shirts, and sweaters are a huge part of the trend. Whether worn over a dress or paired with a pair of low-rise jeans, they’re a cute and fun throwback to our childhood!


Finally, accessorizing is the most important part of Y2K fashion. Mini bags complete any look and gold or silver chunky chain jewelry is a must-have. 


Bandanas are another part of the Y2K trend and perfect for achieving that carefree, summery look! Use them to bring your outfit together and for when you’re having a bad hair day.


While so many brands are now starting to carry some of the best Y2K trends, shopping vintage is a great way to get the most authentic Y2K look.


Many sellers on Depop, eBay, and at your local thrift stores are carrying the very items that might have once been discarded but are now in style!

This isn t indeed y2k, tho y2k style isn t only black and white and all in the metallic tones. And neither it is a mix of old y2k trends and modern stuff like I have seen on this page. It is just mostly based on influent peoples of the y2k pop culture. But yeah defo no high rise jeans

It s time to turn that nostalgia into style! From hoop earrings to crop tops, we re breaking down the most essential staple items from the 90s that you can wear right now.


The 90s was an era of many long-lasting fashion trends that are making a strong resurgence today. Several are even now staples in my closet that I m sure I ll keep around for years to come. These throwback pieces can be styled countless ways and many have also evolved with modern day twists.


We have seen influencers and celebrities rocking these trends and tossing their own flare on them. I love the causal-cool vibe of 90s fashion and how effortless it looks.


This post will break down 13 of our favorite 90s clothing trends and how to style each of them.


The first trend we are showcasing is flare jeans. This silhouette is a classic from the 1990s, along with any loose or oversized jeans and pants. Flare jeans are so versatile, too. They can be dressed up for a night out or dressed down for a casual day around campus.


I threw this chunky, colorful knit cardigan on top. I am obsessed with this sweater and the 90s vibe it gives. It has an oversized fit, open style front, balloon style sleeves, and a drop shoulder silhouette. It s playful and perfect for this look.


Chunky hoop earrings are a 90s trend that will never depart my wardrobe again. I refuse to leave my house without a good staple hoop in. There s something about a thick hoop that makes you feel confident and fierce.


These silver and gold hoops from Amazon are a classic hoop with a fuller body. They have a tubular silhouette with an open-ended finish.


The third trend being styled today is a slip dress. Slip dresses and sneakers are a fan-favorite clothing style of the 90s. Wearing them together is girly and flirty while still being casual and sporty. The sneakers make the dress daytime-friendly, but they can easily be swapped out for heels or booties for a dressier look.


This satin slip mini dress is from Abercrombie and comes in this beautiful statement orange color. I layered a white turtleneck underneath for warmth but you could also throw on a cropped denim or leather jacket to add some flare.


The bomber jacket was a very popular fashion staple in the 90s and it has quickly resurfaced as a versatile new trend. This one from Boohoo has an oversized fit with varsity-style embroidery and is made of faux leather fabric. The jacket is so kitschy and fun. I think it can be styled in multiple ways with simple pieces already hanging in your closet. Since the jacket is such a statement, it doesn t need much to be styled.


I added this high neck, cropped black tank and the perfect pair of light wash, distressed mom jeans from PacSun. They have a high-waisted fit with distressing and rips throughout. The light wash also has a faded, vintage feel to it.


Overalls are such a fun 90s trend that keep getting revamped over time. I love this mint green pair from ASOS because they have a straight-leg, relaxed fit to them. They have pockets, button sides, adjustable buckle straps, and a classic cord design.


For underneath, I opted for this brown button-up shirt from Forever 21. I love the neutral brown color with light green. These two colors complement each other well, in an unexpected way. For earrings, these gold layered hoops take a twist on the traditional hoop and add something extra to the look. Psst are you sensing a theme with hoops yet?!


Last, for shoes, these sneakers from Converse are hands-down my favorite shoes of the moment. They are such head-turners. They re made of durable leather with a sherpa lined tongue. Also, they have a platform and an exaggerated, jagged sole with cushioning for comfort.


This super cute, two-tone brown sneaker will create such an elevated, influencer vibe for this outfit.


Long, tan trench coats are such a 90s style clothing item and one that I ve been seeing a lot more of lately. The trench used to be a dressy coat that was only something one would wear to work, but now it s becoming much more casual.


This is a great coat from Lulu s because it s so versatile and lightweight. It has a large collar, long lapels, and sleeves with banded cuffs. It also comes with a sash belt to cinch your waist.


This patterned dress fits right into our 1990s theme quite well with its bright vibrant colors, ruffles, and mesh details. It has thin straps, a straight neckline, and a slip silhouette all very reminiscent of our favorite decade.


I added this oversized, brown leather jacket for layering and this mini nude purse. The jacket makes me think of the 90s grunge scene and I love the thought of pairing it with something more feminine at heart. Opposites attract when it comes to 90s style clothing!


Crop tops are a 90s trend that is here to stay! When paired with high-waisted jeans, a crop top crafts the cutest look.


I would wear this outfit in a heartbeat. This rhinestone-embellished cropped tee from Urban Outfitters would be on trend when paired with these high-waisted denim jeans from Abercrombie.


Scrunchies are arguably the most classic 90s trend that has held its own throughout the years. They ve come in and out of style, but they ve never totally disappeared. That s some serious lasting power!


These scrunchies from Urban Outfitters aren t just adorable, they are good for your hair too. Satin scrunchies make your hair shiny and strong. There s a reason people swear by satin pillowcases, after all!


When you think of the 90s, chokers are definitely one of the first trends that will pop into your mind. Like scrunchies, they have gone through many phases over the years. From elastic tattoo chokers, to cord versions, to blinged-out charm necklaces we ve seen it all. Now, chokers are taking on a more sophisticated approach and I am here for it.


One of my favorite 90s style clothing pieces is loafers. They are recently starting to come back into mainstream. These chunky, platform loafers from Lulu s are extra cute because they are white with a black sole. They scream 90s-chic with their retro-inspired shape and tall sole.


I styled them with a brown plaid skirt and this ribbed, collared henley shirt. It has a slightly cropped hem and is made of a soft, stretchy material. The skirt has a flattering high-waisted fit and comes in this cozy, woven fabric. It has an a-line mini hem and belt loops with diagonal front pockets.


Cargo pants are a trend that could not be more 90s! Back in the day, you couldn t watch the VMAs without spotting them on several celebrities. This pair from Urban Outfitters is a low-rise pant with a relaxed fit, wide leg, and pocket detailing. I love the black shade because it has reverse stitching that really pops on the seams.


I paired it with this cropped brown sweater from H M and an oversized, neutral-colored flannel from Boohoo. This is the perfect boyfriend flannel for layering. It has an oversized fit and a comfy, casual feel with soft tailoring.


This last trend is one of my favorites because of how girly it is, but it can also be super edgy. Pleated skirts are a true 1990s staple and can be styled in so many different ways. This trend is clearly Clueless-inspired which is one of my all-time favorite movies.


Grunge: Oversized flannels, ripped jeans, combat boots, beanies, bucket hats, band tees

Hip Hop: Baggy clothes, oversized jerseys, tracksuits, Timberlands, Air Force 1s, gold chains.

Bubblegum Pop: Crop tops, miniskirts, platform sneakers, bright colors, butterfly prints, glitter.

Minimalist: Simple silhouettes, neutral colors, clean lines, oversized sweaters, slip dresses.

1980 s style clothing has had a huge resurgence in popularity over the past several years.


Simple styles and monochrome is out. Big shoulders and bold colors are in! Fashion straight from the 80s is becoming more and more trendy. Outfits inspired by the decade of Salt-N-Pepa and Journey are being seen worn by influencers and celebrities alike.


Fashion inspiration and trends from the 80s are easy to style. Why not try spicing up your wardrobe with some of these styles? Trust me: incorporating some of these key pieces into your style will be incredibly fun.


This post is an all-inclusive guide to 80s clothing styles that you can wear this spring. I created 7 outfits around key trends from the decade. This post will also show you hair and makeup ideas inspired by the 80s, as well as some key fashion brands that were very influential at the time.


Now let s get to it! Here are some of our favorite looks and ideas from the 1980 s that can help you re-create the decade s style for yourself today.


This era of fashion is known for bright colors, big hair, dramatic earrings, and lots of ruffles! Below you ll find 7 outfits inspired by these 80s fashion trends!


The first major trend that comes to mind when you think of 80s fashion is big shoulders. We saw this with exaggerated shoulder pads and power suits becoming popular for women. The outfit that I created is a modern take on the famous power suit and something that I would wear in a heartbeat today.


This set is styled around this drool-worthy cropped blazer. It comes in this bright, metallic fuchsia shade and has an open back and exaggerated, pointed shoulders. The top features a luxe satin-like fabric and is an ultra-cropped cut.


I paired this blazer with some ripped boyfriend jeans. These are high-waisted and in a great light wash. They have distressing and a faded, vintage look to them. I added some platform leather sneakers to keep the look casual.


For accessories, I gravitated towards these brightly beaded statement earrings, another huge trend for the 80s. I also added this white mini shoulder bag to stash all your essentials. It is embossed with a croc print.


Bold colors were part of every girl s wardrobe in the 1980s. Every outfit included at least one bright color, but usually multiple. These colors often clashed, but in the best way. For this 80s style clothing set, I focused on the colors neon pink, baby blue, and bright orange.


The neon pink sweater has balloon sleeves and a classic crew neckline. The sweater has ribbed knit accents at the neck, cuffs, and hem. I paired it with this adorable baby blue mini skirt with a daisy print. This skirt is so whimsical and also comes in purple and pink.


I added some platform white Doc Martens, one of my favorite styles of boots, to pair with this type of look. The girliness of the skirt goes so well with the edginess of the boots. For accessories, these bright orange textured earrings make a statement, as does the baby blue mini shoulder bag.


Sequin-studded style is a clothing trend from the 80s that is still going strong today. Sequins are such a fun element to add to a look and are so fab when styled for festive occasions, like holidays, birthdays, parties, or any time you want to make a scene.


This silver sequin top has a strappy open back that you can wrap around and tie in multiple ways. It is such a sassy detail that adds a lot to the top and it s really unexpected.


For bottoms, I brought some color into the look with these high-waisted, flared green jeans. I love this deep hunter green color and the thin corduroy material adds something extra. The flared leg brings inspiration back from the 70s too, even though today s post is all about the 80s. It never hurts to mix and match!


I added some chunky high-top white Converse and these fun silver snake earrings. Last, for a bag, I finished off the look with this single-fixed handle black purse. It has a faux croc print and a magnetic button fastening. I love the flat base and super structured look of the bag.


This has to be one of my favorite trends from the 80s that has recently made a huge comeback. Ruffles and all things tulle were super popular back then and are seen just about everywhere now.


The main statement of the look is this mini ruffle black dress. It is strapless with layers of ruffles and tulle. I paired it with some white lace-up block heels that are to-die-for. I love these heels because they are not too high, so they re comfortable enough for a night out. They have a square toe and ankle wrap fastening to add some extra detail to the look.


For warmth, I added this amazing black jacket. This jacket is so chic and screams high-fashion, but for a pretty affordable price. This long coat is made out of smooth vegan leather and has faux fur trimming and a removable waist belt. I love the look of the jacket without the belt and left unbuttoned and opened over the dress.


Finally, I finished off this look with some textured silver mini hoops. They have a braided detail to add a little something more than just plain hoops.


Off-the-shoulder silhouettes were a super popular clothing style in the 80s and are still full steam ahead today! This look styles this off-the-shoulder top. It has an elastic neckline, cuffs, and underbust, so it stays up on its own. It also has sheer puff sleeves in this sheen organza fabric. This bright blue color is so bold and pops so much.


I styled the top with these asymmetrical ripped jeans. They are high-waisted and have distressing throughout the legs. For shoes, I added these simple chunky black booties and then polished off the look with this bright reddish-orange crossbody mini purse.


This next outfit set styles the same trend, off-the-shoulder silhouettes, but in dress version! This satin dress is super chic and trendy. I love the high-fashion look to it and the beautiful sage green color. It features a gathered high waist, mini skirt length, and an asymmetrical overlapping panel.


I paired it with these bright pink chunky heels. They are super strappy and have a platform, square toe, and ankle strap.


For accessories, I added these bright color block mini bags. This really makes the look pop and ties in the colors from the heels. To keep the jewelry simple, I just added some gold mini chunky hoops for a little bit of bling.


Statement earrings are a simple way to bring some 80s clothing trends into your style. These earrings are very retro and add some 70s inspiration to this look. They are daisy flowers in all neutral colors.


I paired them with this blue plaid, long-sleeve cropped top and some black distressed mom jeans. I added some chunky white sneakers and this adorable blue and tan tote bag to hold all your necessities in for the day. This is a total gal-on-the-go look.


Fitness became a huge fad in the 1980s and that was expressed through fashion. Athleisure really was a clothing style that was born in the 80s. Major name brands that are still house names today, like Reebok, Nike, and Adidas, were gaining huge popularity back then. The brands became less about fitness and more about streetwear and wearing these known names every day.


Swatch watches were a huge trend in the 80s. Every cool kid has one of these inexpensive plastic watches. They were made with bright colors and patterns and people often owned several and wore them all at once.


Denim. Denim. Denim. These jean brands became household names and grew in popularity in the 80s. Brands like Guess, Wrangler, Levi, and more were seen being worn by everyone. Whether you liked mom jeans, wide leg jeans, or acid-washed jeans, there was a pair out there for everyone, and everyone had a favorite style.


Ray-Bans became famous for their Wayfarer and Aviator sunglasses. These styles gained even more popularity to help fuel them into the notable brand that they are today. Everyone who was anyone had a pair.


The 1980 s were defined by not just fashion, but by beauty too. Specific hair and makeup trends became iconic and transitioned into styles we know and love today.


Intense eyeshadow was super popular to wear. This included bright colors but also bold application. Women would wear their eyeshadow all the way up to their brows and use bright colors like blues and purples. Bold eyeshadow is back with bright colors on your lid and smeared across your lower lash.


Along with bold eyeshadow came even bolder hair. 80s hair was big and wild, with full volume and extreme curls or waves. This volume is still popular today. Women wore their hair up, down, and to the side. Either way you wore it, there were tons of hairspray and lots of teasing.

I was 15-24 in the 70 s and these really don t reflect the era. Mini skirts were shorter, hot pants were hot, sleeves were big and billowy but fitted at the wrist. Flared jeans were tight to the knees and went all the way to the ground. We wouldn t have been caught dead with our ankles showing or holes or tears in our jeans. They were usually low hiphuggers as well. Crop tops tied right under the breasts and fit snuggly. Hot pink was a big color back then.

I ll just say it: I absolutely love 1960s fashion. But why? , you might ask. They gave us go-go boots and paper dresses! you might cry. They are responsible for tie-dyed everything! you might wail. Or you might not. I don t know. You might be pretty chill about the whole thing.


The reason, though, is that the 60s (despite some strange style choices) made a huge impact on the fashion world. The decade marked a time of great social change and the styles reflect what was happening in the world. 


Below, I ll share an overview of 60s fashion and show you how to get a 60s look in a modern way. Read on to check it out!


The 1960s marked a shift of power in the fashion industry. Rather than fashion designers being the only ones dictating trends, suddenly younger people had a huge amount of influence over what was or wasn t in style. This lead to the creation of styles tailored specifically for young people. Designers started attuning looks to younger generations, giving them a fashion scene all their own. Combined with this was the shift that made London rather than Paris the center of the fashion world. (For more detail on this, see our post on the History of the Miniskirt.)


Moving away from the prim, polished pastels of the 50s, men and women added more bold color to their wardrobes, women began wearing pants regularly, and all styles became increasingly diverse. Jackie Kennedy was a fashion icon of the early 60s, followed by Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy later in the decade. In the mid 60s, mods and rockers set fashion trends in London that would soon spread across the world, and designer Mary Quant raised skirts to new heights.


Finally, the late ’60s gave us the beginning of the hippie movement that would carry over into the 1970s. I hope you’ll forgive me for not including any hippie-chic looks this time around – you will be all hippie-d out after our ’70s article!


This is one of the more unconventional outfits put together during this series, but the bikini has major roots in the 1960s, and with summer swiftly fading away into Autumnal weather, it might be worth one last pool party.


This high waisted bikini pulls back plenty of retro vibes, which is why I stuck with the classic cherry red and black combo. The earrings in particular pull at modern art styles, which grew increasingly popular during the decade.


Fun fact about the bikini: It was originally a hot item in the 1940s due to French designers and limited fabric supplies, but it didn t properly take until the 1960s when demand skyrocketed. The swimsuit itself was named at Bikini Atoll (the nuclear test site), and was adopted into pop culture due to its appearance in popular films at the time.


Every decade has its own set of feminine ideals. The 60s were about innovating and pursuing futuristic ideas, while pushing forward for self-sufficiency. Women were finally on the up for the first time in the century, which impacted fashion.


In the 60s, the shift dress took away the body forming dresses and restrictive undergarments of previous decades. Women were reclaiming bodies by means of these shapeless dresses turned fashion items, and pairing them with classic items like Go-Go boots and trendy eyeliner.


While the eyeshadow is a bit darker than the typical eye makeup shades you would have seen in the 60s, the shade is called Psychedelic Sister, a pretty good calling card for the later years of the decade.


Just in case the first outfit was a little risky, this is a much more seasonally friendly one to dip into, pulling at classic items of the period.


This miniskirt is the perfect hallmark of the decade, paired with a snug turtleneck to fight off the chill. While an outfit like this can be perfect for class, it would also be a great going-out one as well, matched with a pair of tights for later in the evening.


This strays far enough away from the standard Jackie O look, while tying in enough elements to be functional and classic.

When you think about 1950s fashion, a few stereotypes may immediately spring to mind. Maybe you think of poodle skirts and saddle shoes, or the ever infamous bullet bra, or even the stereotypical 50s housewife, cleaning the house in her heels and pearls. 


Unlike with the 90s, which are having a distinct comeback at the moment, it may be difficult to see how 50s styles can fit into your everyday style. But 50s fashion has actually bypassed being a fad, as elements of it are so classic that they ve become commonplace.  


As usual, we ll start below with some background on 50s fashion. Then we ll get to the fun stuff and show how you can make 50s fashion work for you.


The 50s bridged the gap between the reserved and conservative styles of the late 40s and the fun and quirky looks that would define 1960s fashion. Hemlines grew shorter, waistlines wandered up and down, before disappearing completely, and the West seemed obsessed with making up for wartime limitations with excessive glamour and consumerism. 


After wearing very masculine clothing during the Second World War, women opted for exaggerated, stereotypical displays of femininity in the 1950s. The starlets of the time were known for their hourglass figures (think Marilyn Monroe) and many women regularly wore girdles to nip in their waists and bellies.


Much of the fashion in the 1950s was about structure and rules. Women wore shoes that matched their handbags and earrings that matched their necklaces. Their clothing was also literally structured you didn t see many maxi dresses or slouchy cardigans back then!


Though not as diverse as many of the decades that would follow it, the 50s saw a great deal of change in style from beginning to end. With WWII and the rationing and sensible styles it brought having coming to an end, the fashion world struggled to find a new look for the world in which it found itself.


Fashion, then, went in two distinct directions. On the one hand, the fashion houses promoted more conformity in how people should dress and look, with the elegant and structured but simple styles discussed above. On the other hand, teens were responsible for the creation of rebellious subcultures that created unique styles of their own, like Teddy Boys, Greasers, Hepcats, and even Beatniks. 


Makeup was an absolute necessity for the fifties lady and this was the decade where fun products started taking over the market. You could buy a powder compact shaped like just about anything, from pool balls to pianos, and lipstick came in all sorts of fun new colors. Women also began to embrace full, dark brows (think Audrey Hepburn).


As fun as it was, however, there were very strict rules surrounding makeup. Magazines in the fifties would be full of instructions on what sort of makeup should be worn for every possible occasion and a true lady was expected to always have her makeup on. Though the messaging is less overt now, there are still many women who feel as though they re expected to wear makeup, so it s clear that the marketing messages of the 50s are still having an effect.


If you re like me, you thoroughly enjoy applying your makeup in the morning if that s you, too, cool. But always remember that it s a luxury, not an obligation. At the end of the day, you should only wear makeup if YOU want to. Your face and what you put on it is your choice, and yours alone!


Whether you prefer the prim and proper side of the 50s or the new and rebellious looks it brought about, there s a way to incorporate a little 50s into your own style.


By building off of traditional 50s trends, it is super easy to bring back parts of the decade to your wardrobe, while still looking cute and modern.


This look takes the traditional (and trendy) twinset and pairs it with a basic A-Line skirt, creating a timeless silhouette. These colors reflect the autumnal shift in season, while providing simple layers for the lingering heat of the summer.


Finally, a basic pearl necklace and pair of heels help complete this outfit, summoning the magic of the decade in a modern way.


While women of the 1950s pursued new fashion trends that dipped into more dramatic spheres, fashion was also building off of Victorian and Edwardian historical influences. It s like the saying, fashion keeps coming back every twenty years or so.


So, while the post-war years were focused on full skirts and padded shoulders (making the most of restored access to materials, with the Second World War finished), it was also the decade of narrowing the waist. Without corsets, which did not return to fashion, women were using different cuts of their clothing to accent their waists.


This look contrasts the first style, in that it s chicer and closer to the body. The pale color of the dress is very 50s and complements the black Oxford heels. The coat is tied at the waist, bringing the emphasis to your mid-section in a very 50s way.


Finally, a retro-inspired lip color pulls this look together, as does the mauve toned blush.


If you ever have an opportunity to learn traditional Rockabilly Jive dance, do it. It s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the music and spirit of the 50s, while relieving stress and getting some exercise.


To sum up the modern understanding of Rockabilly fashion, it s a combination of 50s music and fashion, intertwined with rock, country and parts of punk aesthetics. Basically, it manages to include a diverse group of themes, making it accessible as a unique genre that is still active today.


For this look, I ve created a rockabilly inspired outfit for an edgy take on the 50s styles. To get it, don some hair accessories, a full-bodied dress with a funky pattern, and a bold swipe of black liner.


Lastly, I chose a pair of plain wedges to allow for easy movement. Often, I include heels with these looks, so this is an alternative for those of you who prefer comfort first.

If you are a fan of Ariana Grande, you ve probably seen her famous outfits that include knee-high boots. But it s not just Ari that s wearing them right now. Knee-high boots are a huge trend this season!


So, if you are thinking of what kind of shoes you can wear will all your outfits in the months to come, I recommend grabbing a pair of knee-high boots ASAP. In particular, I m loving these knee-high platform boots they ll go with everything and they d definitely be Ari approved!


As the fall season comes around, it brings chillier weather, so it is not a surprise that turtlenecks are already becoming a hot Instagram fashion trend.


Another trend I ve been seeing all over Instagram is the oversized drawstring mini hoodie dress (often paired with #1, knee high boots).


You probably already have some oversized hoodies in your closet, but the new trend is wearing them as a dress.


So, you can either pull out your old oversized hoodies to style as a dress (or steal one from your boyfriend), or just purchase a hoodie dress like this one. I love that it comes in a pretty beige color for fall.


If you are into an edgy look, you will love this Instagram fashion trend. I have been seeing this in so many outfit photos recently. It s the oversized biker jacket!


This is the perfect fashion item to throw on with all your fall outfits because it will go with just about anything and will keep you nice and warm.


By now you know that Doc Martens have been a huge trend for the past few seasons, but Instagram is spicing up these classics. Specifically, I ve been seeing so many influencers rocking chunky platform combat boots!


This is a vibe for 2021 in general. You probably have seen that chunky fashion items like shoes and hoop earrings have been very popular recently, and boots are included!


Don t have a pair yet? I highly recommend these lace-up heeled chunky boots because they re mega affordable and are neutral enough to go with everything.


Aviator sunglasses have been around forever (they re one of those classic sunglasses styles that never goes out of fashion), but vintage aviators are trending in a big way on Instagram right now.


These are perfect if you re looking for some fun, affordable accessories to add to your fall outfits!


Amazon is one of our favorite places to shop for cheap sunglasses, so I suggest getting these classic vintage aviator sunglasses to look trendy this fall.


Flannel shirts used to be really popular and now they are coming back into style as a fashion item! Specifically, Instagram is loving the flannel shacket (shirt + jacket).


This means you can wear all of your old flannel shirts that you love as part of your fall outfits just throw one on over your favorite little summer dress or crop top for a cute look.


Need something to wear for special occasions in the upcoming seasons? Brown leather pants are one of the most popular Instagram fashion trends to add to your closet.


You may have black leather pants, but if you want to look super trendy I would suggest purchasing these affordable faux leather pants because brown is everything right now! They practically scream fall, too.


Jacket dresses are the new thing when it comes to dresses, and I love this look it s so sophisticated and fun. So, if you want to switch up your dress styles this season, this is the trend to try.


Instagram is one of my favorite places to look for accessories trends, and there s one in particular that I ve seen all over for many seasons now.

Another accessories trend I have been seeing on Instagram is bucket hats. You have probably been wearing bucket hats over the summer, and you shouldn t put them away just yet!

This Instagram fashion trend is really heating up for the fall season. Plaid pants started to become popular this summer, but with fall coming up, they re an absolute must-have. (Plaid is a fall classic, after all.)

By now you probably have at least a few claw clips on hand, but if you haven t tried this trend yet, it s officially time!


Hair claw clips in leopard, brown, and other darker colors have been all over Instagram as a fun hair accessory. I m loving this hair claw clip in leopard print, because leopard is a neutral, after all.
